Why should I buy an Android phone?

By Bill Tower

Android has made good progress since 2005 when Google bought a relatively unknown company called Android Inc. For over half a decade Google opened up the OS and let anyone download, enhance, customize, use and share it for free.

Freedom stands out as the keyword that sets apart Android from all other smartphones offered. Apple has a tyrannical like clasp on its iPhone and Blackberry isn't much different. In comparison you are free to install any software you would like on an Android phone. The app marketplace is not restricted to what someone within a review department evaluates to be appropriate.

Because of this type of liberty, application designers are abandoning Apple and embracing the freedom that producing for Android can bring. Currently there are tens of thousands of applications available, some of them are even useful! For example the standard messaging system is nothing to scream about on the Android but it does not need to be since there are more than a dozen absolutely free applications that you can download that can replace the built in texting program. This degree of modification and choice seriously isn't available on other smartphones where the manufacturers want to tie you down to only their .

Since it is easier for designers to make apps and because there is more competition you will see that many apps that you have to buy on the iPhone and Blackberry are free on the Android, or at least there will be a free 'lite' edition available therefore you are saving on the expense of personalizing your cell phone.

If you're anything like the common Web surfer you most likely use several Google web services such as Gmail, Gtalk, Drive and Search. While you can acquire these services on other smartphones, the Android operating system has produced applications that integrate and synchronize seamlessly with your Android. For instance, say you add a completely new contact to your address book, Android is clever enough to update your Google contacts list so when you ever lose your android then all of your important data is saved in Google's cloud services.

Security is obviously a big variable and with android usage rising, counterfeiters and unlawful gangs are actively attempting to get access to the private information people store on their mobile phones.. Though you can get some great security for Android you can rest assured that Google has always got your back with its remote kill switch ability to remove any dodgy apps that could have found their way in to your cellular phone.

Finally there is the important aspect of variety. With an iPhone you are restricted to one product, not great if you wish to express yourself. The Blackberry targets business people and the models are not even close inspiring. In contrast since the Android Mobile Phone is a free OS which you can use without royalties, many significant smartphone companies are creating Android based mobile phones. You now have a choice of type, choice of dimensions, choice of features and most significantly find a android which fits your budget.
