I don't have to tell you that owning something brand new is a very satisfying experience. On the other hand, having problems with something recently purchased can cause the opposite kind of feeling. That is why making an effort to take care of and maintain your netbook is so important. It is so easy to not worry about this right up until you start experiencing problems. But by then, it may be too late. The rest of this article will present some simple tips on caring for your netbook.
1.) When cleaning the screen, avoid paper towels or cloth made of coarse materials since this will scratch your screen. A soft cotton cloth works best. Don't use a dry cloth because this will cause the dirt to abrade the screen. The cloth should be moistened with distilled water or alcohol. Do not use any other solvent without further research since they might chemically react with the screen material or coatings on the screen.
2.) Netbooks don't have as much space on their hard drives as normal laptops do. This means it's much easier use it up, causing your computer to slow down and even freeze up. Periodically clear out your cookies, temporary files, browsing history, and your recycle bin. If you have any files sitting on your hard drive that get infrequent use, transfer them into an external hard drive or to a file storage site on the net. Do you have applications on your computer that you never use? If so, uninstall them.
3.) Have you ever had a key on your keyboard stick? Having a problem key that requires you to hit it extra hard is annoying and slows down your typing. One trick you can try is to tip your netbook on it's side and quickly press the sticking key in and out. This causes the particle underneath the problem key to dislodge and allows gravity to pull it somewhere else. Make sure there are no other keys downhill from the sticking key. Otherwise the particle may lodge itself under one of them.
4.) Your netbook stays cool with the use of internal fans. Make sure you know where the fan ports are located so that you can avoid blocking them by accident. Otherwise this will cause overheating which can damage and/or reduce the life of your computer. The warmer your working environment, the less tolerant your machine will be to blocked fan ports.
Those who wait until their netbooks are having problems before giving them proper attention usually are the ones who only get a couple of years out of their machines if even that. You can be one of the owners whose computer lasts for four or five years if proper care and maintenance becomes a habit.
