A little Information About Medical Practice Management Software

By Mina R. Raynor

Medical practice management software provides features and services, including revenue and repetitive financial matters, that do tasks that doctors and other medical personnel traditionally do when they are filling out patient records and taking care of other related matters, so that they have more time to focus on individual patient needs and preferences. There are various features and services that make this possible, which we will consider below.

One of the biggest concerns of many doctors who have medical practices is managing bill collecting. Many medical management software packages include a billing service application that sets appointments, sends electronic claims, secondary claims, produces charge slips, bills patients, keeps track of unpaid claims, and sends reports every that allow the moderator to make any changes they would like. Each of these billing steps is done in a polite and professional manner that helps maintain and strengthen the dynamic between medical personnel and patients.

Also, many doctor's offices that use medical practice management software often qualify for governmental incentive plans that have recently been implemented to help encourage economic growth in public service areas including transportation, education, infrastructure, unemployment benefits, and health care. If a health care provider can prove "meaningful use" of Electronic Health Records (EHR) software, they can take advantage of one of the two programs, Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs, available to eligible professionals.

Another advantage that comes with these applications is that each program within the package is usually interoperable, meaning that they work together and allow medical histories, test results, and other patient details to be accessed by users and exchanged with other health care organizations, providers, and systems. This saves manpower, energy, and time that doctors and their personnel would otherwise spend filling out, filing, finding, and sending patient information and files.

One thing that is important to look for when shopping for the right medical practice management software provider is that they be certified as a "Complete EHR", by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT). This proves that each aspect of the software package has been tested and withstood clinical trials, and will perform the tasks and services required by many health care organizations; however, it is important to keep in mind that this is in no way an endorsement by the Department of Health and Human Services, or a guarantee that the user will qualify for an incentive program.
