Excellent Parenting Tips For New Age Parents

By Nida Blanquet

It takes a lot to be a parent, especially, when you have a few kids, a job and other demands. But if you can learn to prioritize and enjoy the fun along the way, then you should do fine. This article can help you to meet some of those demands as a parent.

An important tip to consider in terms of parenting is to try to save money when it comes to school supplies. If your child wants to buy items that are more expensive, recommend that they do chores around the house to cover the difference in price compared to cheaper versions.

If your child is being bullied, talk to them about it. Have family members share their own experiences with bullying and how they handled it, and make sure to support them unconditionally. Also contact the school and see what methods are in place for teachers and staff to help the situation.

Listen to your own intuition when it comes to co-sleeping with your baby. It is not recommended that you do this on a daily basis, however, provided certain steps are taken to protect the child, it is sometimes acceptable to allow the baby to sleep in your bed with you. This is particularly soothing to the baby when it wakes in the middle of the night and is having difficulty resettling.

Consider teaching a young toddler or older infant signing. Even if you don't use special "baby sign", toddlers will have an easier time communicating with their hands than with their words. This is an especially useful technique if you have a toddler with a language delay, as it provides them with a channel for communication.

Let the baby nurse as long as he is still actively sucking with deep drawn motions. If the baby starts to slow down, hold down on your breast for a few seconds to release more milk. If he is still hungry, this will get him going again. If he does not respond then try switching sides as he may have emptied that breast.

Take care not to pass your fears on to your children. Adults are irrationally afraid of many things in life; rather than teaching your child to be afraid too, give them what they need to handle a wide variety of situations. For example, give them rules and expectations for how to behave if another adult approaches them and you aren't around. Allow them to feel in control and confident.

Never yell at your children. It is best to talk to them with a calm voice, no matter how bad they are being. The more upset you get, the more upset they will get and things will spiral out of control very quickly. Keep your calm as much as possible.
