Avoiding the biggest money pits in business

By Jolene Hunt

No business likes to hear that its' wasting money. In the beginning, it can be overwhelming knowing that you do need to invest in order to get ahead, yet it can be terrifying investing in the wrong things and seeing money go down the drain. Everyone has a different option, and with all the people out there trying to sell to businesses, it can be very confusing. How do you not waste money?

The glamour of having a "PR company" and hiring a "graphic designer" and an "SEO expert" and bringing them in to "do it for you" can feel all professional, but the reality is, they are all out to make money just the same as you. It is a good idea to sit down and work out exactly what you can do in house, and how much it can save you. The field of advertising and promotion is so wide and varied there simply are no simple answers.

The charm of a new office can be alluring. You can almost smell the coffee combined with those leather seats. Yet so much money can be wasted on expensive offices and equipment before it is safe to do so, or realistically necessary to do so. Don't get caught in that scene too soon.

On way many businesses that use vehicles waste money is in their running costs. Cars and vans can take up so much time and resources it can be shocking. This is why many businesses, such as catering businesses, flower delivery companies, and any sort of company that utilizes cars, take out what is called fleet management software. Being able to see on the screen how much your vehicles are costing you at any given time and why is a huge savings.

Making the most out of people is essential. Underusing staff, hiring the wrong staff, hiring too many friends and family, and spending too much money training people when you could hire someone already trained, can all add up. You can save money taking time to find the right person rather than rushing to find the wrong person.
