RPG And MMORPG Space Game Differences

By Magdalen P. Oga

Space game MMORPG's and RPG's are both recognized as some of the most popular video games currently available on the market. Although technology has expanded in considerable ways since the days of dice RPG's like Dungeons and Dragons, you will still notice many of the same elements in modern role playing games. As technology has gotten better during the last decade, particularly in relation to the Internet, so has the way in which many people enjoy role playing and space games. The manner in which players interact with one another has been forever altered with the advent of MMORPG's, also called massively multiplayer online games. What distinctions can be noticed between MMORPG's and other one player RPG counterparts?

Both RPG's and MMORPG's in the space game category keep true to role playing essentials such as leveling up a character to progress through the game, character customization, and item looting. There is a reduced chance for the player to choose their own path in RPG's on consoles, however, that have very linear story progress. Many of the game's principle events will be scripted and controlled by the makers of the game and cannot be altered regardless of how you choose to play.

This is very different, however, if you are playing a space game designed as an MMORPG that allows you to interact with hundreds of other players. Developers are constantly making changes to the layout of the game and teaming up with additional players also gives you a chance to explore areas you could not if you were alone. The difference between working together with a computer controlled character and a human gamer is an unpredictable element that can be quite thrilling. Instead of following a set path for the game's progression and your character's decisions, you can choose your own path and focus on the elements of the game that you find most interesting.

Multiplayer gaming is just about never featured on traditional RPG games; they are known as classically one player games. This social aspect of MMORPG's is part of the reason that they have quickly gained popularity around the world.

RPG's, MMORPG's, and other space games all offer exciting elements that gamers appreciate. An exciting game that mixes role playing elements with an Web based social aspect can bring you countless hours of fun.
